When constructing a fish pond farming system, accurately calculating the dosage of MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) is the key to maintaining a good water environment. The following will present detailed calculation methods and highly valuable reference values to help you accurately estimate the required amount of MBBR and the volume of the biochemical tank for fish pond farming.

Example 1: Raising 35 kilograms of fish per cubic meter of water.

If you can raise 35 kilograms of fish per cubic meter of water in your fish pond, the design of the biochemical tank should account for 25% of the total volume of the fish pond, and the filler should fill 30% of the volume of the biochemical tank.
For example, if there is a 100-cubic-meter fish pond and the total weight of the fish when fully grown is 3,500 kilograms. At this time, the volume of the biochemical tank to be constructed should be 25% of the volume of the fish pond:
Volume of biochemical tank = 100 × 25% = 25 cubic meters.
Required MBBR filler = 25 × 30% = 7.5 cubic meters.
Thus, for a 100-cubic-meter fish pond, 7.5 cubic meters of MBBR filler is needed to achieve the best biological filtration effect.

Example 2: Raising 50 kilograms of fish per cubic meter of water.

If you raise 50 kilograms of fish per cubic meter of water, the biochemical tank should be 30% of the total volume of the fish pond, and the filler is still 30% of the volume of the biochemical tank.
For example, for a 100-cubic-meter fish pond, the total weight of the fish after maturity is 5,000 kilograms:
Volume of biochemical tank = 100 × 30% = 30 cubic meters.
Required MBBR filler = 30 × 30% = 9 cubic meters.
In this case, for a 100-cubic-meter fish pond, 9 cubic meters of MBBR filler is needed.

Conventional calculation method of MBBR for fish pond farming.

Generally speaking, the volume of the biochemical tank in fish pond farming should be 50% to 60% of the total water volume, and the circulation rate should reach once per hour. At the same time, the advertising volume of MBBR filler should be 30% to 40% of the volume of the biochemical tank.
For example:
If the volume of your fish pond is 30 cubic meters, then the required volume of the biochemical tank is:
Volume of biochemical tank = 30 × 60% = 18 cubic meters.
Required MBBR filler = 18 × 40% = 7.2 cubic meters.

Therefore, for a 30-cubic-meter fish pond, you need to install 7.2 cubic meters of MBBR filler in the biochemical tank.

Conclusion

According to these calculation methods, you can easily estimate the required MBBR filler and the volume of the biochemical tank in fish pond farming. Ensuring the balance among fish pond volume, breeding density, and the size of the biochemical tank plays a crucial role in maintaining excellent water quality and promoting the healthy growth of fish.
