MBBR (moving bed biofilm reactor) is a common biological filter media. It uses a large amount of filler (usually plastic carrier) to provide a huge surface area for microorganisms to attach and form biofilm, thereby achieving biological treatment of wastewater.

Advantages of MBBR:

High efficiency: It has higher volumetric load and removal efficiency than traditional activated sludge method.
Shock load resistance: Due to the presence of biofilm, it is more adaptable to changes in water quality.
Easy to operate: The system is simple and easy to operate and maintain.

In addition to MBBR, common biological filter media include:

Bioballs: Small plastic balls that provide a large surface area and are often used in aquariums.
Biorings: Hollow plastic rings with stable structure and large surface area.
Biofilter fillers: Includes various natural materials (such as volcanic rocks, ceramsite) and artificial materials (such as foam plastics) used in biofilters.
Biofilm carriers: Carriers of various shapes and materials that provide attachment surfaces for biofilms.
